The bet365 Gold Cup is worth £98,473 to the winner so it could prove the deciding race in the UK Trainers’ Championship.
At the entry stage, Willie Mullins has 15 of the 34 entries with only three out of the top 20 (max field) in the race while Dan Skelton has three entries who are all outside the top 20 in the race.
Sandown Jump Finale Tips
A lot of the focus in this race will naturally involve horses trained by Willie Mullins but I have had this race in mind for RESPLENDENT GREY (best priced at 16/1) since his fourth place finish in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

The Olly Murphy trained seven-year-old won over 2m4f on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter before finishing a close 2nd to Hyland at Cheltenham over 3m½f at Cheltenham in November.
It was his 3rd placed effort behind Handstands in the Grade 2 Esher Novices’ Chase which is the interesting form line as he ran in snatches before staying on strongly over 3 miles to finish only 3 ½ lengths behind the now 157 rated Grade 1 winning chaser.
Resplendent Grey was once again outpaced behind subsequent Cheltenham Festival winner Jagwar over 2m4½f at Cheltenham in January before staying on strongly to finish 4th behind subsequent Irish Grand National winner Haiti Couleurs in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 142.

Sean Bowen worked miracles to get Resplendent Grey back involved having been detached from an early stage and we have seen horses stay on strongly at the finish of this race to win (I recommend you watch a replay of the 2011 renewal won by Poker De Sivola).
Resplendent Grey should appreciate this return to Sandown and he can provide Sean Bowen with an important victory on the day that he is crowned Champion Jockey for the first time.
Advised Bet: 3:35 Sandown - Resplendent Grey 16/1 (0.5pt ew)
